Routine eye exams are important regardless of age or physical health, since there are many eye conditions initially presenting without symptoms that can be diagnosed and treated before causing irreversible damage. We provide licensed full eye exams for children, adults, seniors, first responders, tradespeople, and military members, including 4-Wing Cold Lake Air Crew exams and cyclo’s.

All adult full eye examinations include ultra-wide-field Optos retina photos. Please call our office if you have any questions about fees and copays.

We are pleased to see your child for their first eye exam at 6 months old as recommended by the Canadian Association of Optometrists. Contrary to what other optometry businesses adopted after the 2024 Opto35 government billing changes, we DO NOT charge a copay for children’s yearly eye exams.

Current Contact Lens Wearers: A yearly full eye exam is required to renew any contact lens prescription to ensure the most up-to-date Rx and rule out any pre-existing conditions that could interfere with contact lens wear. There is no additional fee if we have fit you in contact lenses at our office or if you can provide us with a recent contact lens prescription, unless if a refit is required.

New Contact Lens Wearers: We are always excited to get you into your first set of contact lenses suited specifically for your lifestyle! After your full eye exam, a separate fit and train appointment will be required.

Specialty Contact Lens Fits: We fit a wide range of contact lens technologies, including scleral lenses - email, text, or inquire within.

Our clinic is a member of Eye Recommend, enabling us to provide care tailored specifically to you and your family! We offer specialty services such as MSD scleral contact lens fitting, punctal occlusion for dry eye, and lenses for high prescriptions. If you have an acute or emergency eye issue while we’re open, don’t go wait in the emergency room! Walk-ins are always welcome during the week as we reserve slots everyday for eye emergencies.

Dr. Dornstauder is available to evaluate and manage many eye emergencies, including injuries, redness, metal foreign bodies, styes, ocular discomfort, light sensitivity, new flashes and/or floaters, and much much more, including referrals to Ophthalmology.

Access our full diagnostic suite, including: visual field testing, colour blindness tests, vision therapy assessment, glaucoma and macular degeneration OCT scans, ultra-wide-field retinal photographs to detect diabetic retinopathy, cataract consultation, and laser eye surgery consultation. Zeiss is our primary lens supplier, with single vision, progressive, bifocal, and trifocal options. We provide industry-leading lens technologies to correct blurry vision at near and distance, nighttime vision and glare, and protect your eyes from the sun. We also offer specialized trade-specific lens options for pilots and tactical / first responder applications. All of our frames and lenses are backed by industry-leading warranties against manufacturer defects.

Lakeshore Optometry has a wide selection of Rx-able ANSI- and CSA-approved safety frames. We are authorized providers of EyeSafe, SafeVision, and Securo Vision; if your company is not enrolled in these services, we can Rx any of our safety frames privately through Zeiss or EyeSafe Advantage, complete with a safety stamp. We also provide NDT eye exams for welding inspectors and provide the necessary testing to sign and stamp any other trade-specific forms.

Broken glasses? We offer general frame repairs and frame adjustments as a complimentary service, even if you did not purchase your glasses from us. For more damaged glasses, we can hand-edge your lenses into a new frame or solder it back together to hold you by. We also supply kid-friendly durable frames and anti-scratch coatings on all our lenses.
